Southeast Los Angeles Alcohol & Drug Taskforce: Community Meeting

As part of The Wall Las Memorias’ Substance Abuse Prevention and Control (SAPC) activities, we have been actively engaged in the Huntington Park and surrounding communities through the Southeast Los Angeles Alcohol & Drug Taskforce!

There have been ongoing conversations with merchants through our knock and talk interventions to discuss the particular challenges that come with running a liquor store in the Huntington Park, especially as these relate to the prevention of alcohol sales to minors.

We have also visited 10 vendors in this area to evaluate the layout of their stores to address any marketing or accessibility of alcohol to minors. Perhaps most significantly, we have conducted pseudo decoy investigation in Huntington Park to determine compliance with carding procedures. To test compliance, we have had people who look underage attempt to purchase alcohol to our surprise, not all merchants passed!
